Prayer Shawl Ministry
All are welcome to participate as we gather in fellowship while knitting or
crocheting prayer shawls. The shawls are given to members and
friends in need of comfort. Those undergoing surgery, fighting disease, giving
birth, or in mourning are likely recipients.
Any Center for Spiritual Living-Olympia member can request a prayer shawl be
sent to a relative or friend by simply calling the main office number and
placing a request. Each shawl is blessed by our community in a ceremony before
being sent and includes a note of blessing.
What is a Prayer Shawl?
Throughout the ages, shawls have come to symbolize shelter, peace, and spiritual
sustenance. Since the inception of the
Prayer Shawl Ministry in 1998, members of organizations have lovingly
donated their time and talents by creating hand-knitted and crocheted shawls for
those in need. What started as a grassroots movement has quickly grown into an
international cause, with countless shawls given to grateful recipients around
the world.
The Ministry's message of caring is simple, universal, and enduring. And we have
seen time and again that the creation and presentation of a prayer shawl—like
all acts of generosity—enriches the giver as well as the recipient.
