January 2011 – The Science of Mind and Spirit

January 2 –  “Vision for the New Year”

“The Divine Spirit is flowing through me in an individual way and I accept the genius of my own being. Since the original Artist is doing something new through me today, I do not imitate others. Each is a Divine Being on the pathway of an eternal unfoldment. All the Presence there is, is flowing through me in an original manner.” ~ Ernest Holmes

This Sunday we will each experience a visioning for our New Year, and ground that vision with a white stone ceremony during our Sunday service. There will be a Vision Board workshop following the service, offered as a gift to the congregation, and everyone will be able to create a soul collage for their new year.

January 9 – “The Thing Itself”

“When Christ dwells in us in love, which is unity, we are able to understand the things that the saints have understood. Saints, simply means a wise and good person – all saints have been human beings just as we are, for God makes all people alike. The universe plays no favorites.”  ~ Ernest Holmes

The month of January is traditionally focused on the first four introductory chapters of the Science of Mind by Ernest Holmes. “The Thing Itself” is the first of those chapters and we begin our new year with grounding in spiritual principles, recognizing that Spirit is all there is, and nothing is separate or apart from that Presence.

Ernest Holmes was deeply impressed by the universe having no favorites, and he emphasizes that the gifts of Spirit are available to all equally. It is up to us to demonstrate those principles in creating a world that works for everyone.

January 16 –   “Serving Spirit” Volunteer Celebration

“’Freely ye have received, freely give.’ When the law of circulation is retarded, stagnation results. It is only as we allow the Divine current to flow through us on and out, that we really express life. The law of giving and receiving is definite.”  ~ Ernest Holmes

This Sunday we celebrate the gift of service that all our members share. The talk will focus on how to use our giving as a spiritual practice, as a form of tapasa (a Sanskrit term for spiritual practice) that gives back to us by providing the necessary tools for self awareness. The service will be followed by a volunteer fair in the lobby.

January 23 – “The Way It Works”

“You are either attracting or repelling according to your mental attitudes. You are either identifying yourself with lack or with abundance, with love and friendship or with indifference. You cannot keep from attracting into your experience that which corresponds to the sun total of your states of  consciousness. This law of attraction and repulsion works automatically. It like the law of reflection – like a mirror. Life is a mirror peopled with the forms of your own acceptance.” Ernest Holmes

Today’s talk will remind us of the basic law of attraction and the way it works. We each have the power to change our lives for the better and we will revisit our vision for the year to ensure we stay on track.

January 30 –  “How to Use It”

“We should always keep in mind that we are the beneficiaries of Life. We do not put the chicken in the egg, nor the oak tree in the acorn. Rather, we take them out. We did not create the Divine Presence nor the Law of Good; we commune with this Presence and use this Law.”  ~ Ernest Holmes

As we wrap up the month of January we remind ourselves of how to use the tools that bring the results we are seeking.
