January - February 2012 – Science of Mind Basics
The theme for 2012 is Be the Light: Grow, Serve, Shine,
continuing the powerful program we experienced this fall.
We add another
dimension to our theme by using Ernest Holmes’ book,
Living the Science of Mind, as our study guide for the whole year. This
book is Holmes' companion to his text, The Science of Mind.
Copies will be available on the information table
throughout the year. Most weeks, we will follow an essay from this practical
book of down-to-earth essays on
metaphysics, spirituality, and healing.
January 1 – What is Science of Mind?
Living the Science of Mind, p. 1
“One of our fundamental propositions is that God is all there is. When
you say God is all there is, that includes everything, all possibility and all
action, for Spirit is the invisible essence and substance of all form. It is
impossible to separate the highest use of this science from the most exalted
conception of an immanent Spirit, a transcendent Spirit, an available Spirit."
~ Ernest Holmes
Our service will include a visioning for the New Year and a White Stone
Ceremony. During the ceremony, we will each set our intentions for
the rest of the year, coming up with one or two words to represent changes we
wish to make or what we wish to see expressing in our experience.
You are also invited to witness the marriage blessing of two
of our new members after the service in the sanctuary, followed by a New
Year's Day potluck.
January 8 – Science of Mind – How to Use It
Living the Science of Mind, p. 11
The Power that creates exists before we use It. However, It can give us only
that which we mentally take, and often our unbelief becomes our acceptance, our
fear a misplaced faith. We bind ourselves by the very power which could as
quickly free us. We should increase our receptivity and have a greater faith, if
we wish to experience a larger degree of livingness. Our bowl of acceptance must
be held up so that the outpouring of Spirit may be measured into our individual
experience.

January 15 – You Are a Forerunner
Living the Science of Mind, p. 16
You are a forerunner in this field [of conscious living], breaking down
barriers of race consciousness, the accumulated effects of misconceptions, and
the morbid fears of the world in which we live. When science, common sense, and
a right philosophy combine, the half-gods of our mistaken beliefs will have to
go. There is no point in waiting for this transformation in human affairs, for
we cannot change the thought of the whole world overnight. But, fortunately, we
can change our reactions to it, and build a strong and impregnable barrier in
our own consciousness against everything that denies the Supreme Good.

January 29 – Let God Do it
Living the Science of Mind, p. 24
“Each of us is an inlet to the Divine but because we are individuals we can
inhibit Its flow, we can block It or squeeze It down to a small volume or even
stop It; or, by opening up the channels of faith and conviction and hope, we can
increase Its flow.”

February 5 – What We Believe
Living the Science of Mind, pp. 83-106
This week we explore the declaration of principles called “What We Believe”
and written by Ernest Holmes. A special reading of our principles juxtaposed
with the Global Heart mission will be part of our Sunday celebration. As we hear
and contemplate the guiding statements of Centers for Spiritual Living, we are
reminded to claim our own declaration – to discover what we believe and commit
to living it.

February 12 – Getting Personal
Living the Science of Mind, pg. 111
“No one can find God for us; each individual must do this for him or herself.
We cannot find God outside the self because we cannot go outside the Self. There
is no place where we begin and God leaves off. We can find God only within
ourselves.”
This week we plan to have the first Community Spotlight Conversation on
Shared Leadership at Center for Spiritual Living - Olympia. We urge you to
attend after service.
