Children’s Program (10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.) - two people

Get involved in helping to provide the CSL-Olympia children with the spiritual tools they need to live joyful, successful lives. Contact Camille Fastle for specific requirements.

  • Receive curriculum via e-mail the week prior to your shift
  • Arrive promptly at 10:30 to help set up the room
  • With your partner, follow the curriculum, including song, reading and crafts.
  • After service, help clean up the room and restore it to its original condition.

Communications

Communications volunteers will focus on keeping current and prospective members up-to-date with information about programs and services at the Center for Spiritual Living—Olympia.

Current needs:

  • Website: content editing, online calendar, back-end technical support
  • Bulletin board: keep it updated and fresh
  • Publications: eNewsletter, weekly announcements
  • Photographer: digital photos used in website, PowerPoint, displays
  • Social media: keep the Center’s facebook page active and lively, send out facebook event notices
  • Video: videographer with video-editing skills for online posting
  • Media relations: news releases, features, public service announcements, newspaper calendar listings
  • Other ideas for sharing your unique skills and talents?

Early Team Foyer Set-Up

Altar Set-Up (10 to 10:20 a.m.)  - one person

Bring your creativity to the front of the sanctuary with concept, design, and set-up of a unique weekly altar.

  • Set up small white folding table (labeled "Altar") from behind sanctuary
  • Create an altar around the theme of the day’s talk, or a simple set-up of drapes and real or artificial flowers, candles, etc.
  • Light candles before music begins at 10:30 a.m.
  • Sit at information table, sharing wisdom, until service begins.

Welcome Ambassadors  (10 to 11 a.m.) two people

Greeting Table

  • Get the sandwich board from the foyer closet and go out the double doors by where the couches and info table currently are, put at the corner near the road.
  • Set up one small folding table, from foyer closet, at the post facing the double front doors.
  • Cover with a cloth and decorate as desired with candles, art, seasonal flowers, etc.
  • Set items from Greeting box on table.
  • Get the Name Tag holder from its nail, and box of new name tags out of foyer closet, set on table in front lobby area.
  • Set out the “program recycle” box on a folding chair near the inside of the double sanctuary doors
  • Set a chair inside the sanctuary doors and place the Prayer Request Box on it.
  • Warmly greet attendees, hand out programs, answer questions. Greet people coming in, assist them with name tags, hand out programs
  • Direct newcomers to information table, meditation room, or into the Sanctuary to listen to music. Let them know about hospitality or potluck.

Information Table

  • Get one white banquet table from the foyer closet (or behind the altar) and set it up in front of long bench
  • Cover with a cloth and decorate as desired with candles, seasonal flowers, etc, allowing plenty of space for information.
  • Roll out the bulletin board from inside the sanctuary doors. Position it lengthwise in hallway behind greeting table. Remove the cloth, fold it neatly and place inside the information table box.
  • Cover the two foosball tables with cloths.
  • Stuff programs with this week’s announcements during lulls in the entry.
  • Greet visitors and members while passing out programs, assist them with name tags
  • Be at information table before service to share info on how to become a member, answer questions

Hospitality Team

Coffee Set-Up (10 to 10:30 a.m.) —  two people

  • Bring one quart of half-and-half.
  • Get cart from behind sanctuary with large coffee maker
  • Carry large coffee maker to classroom #1 and plug in to begin heating. (Allow 20 minutes to heat)
  • Load cart with items from cabinet and bring to food prep classroom:
    • service items: cups, plates, utensils, napkins, sugar, tea, stir sticks  filters, water pitcher, coffee and hot water carafes 
    • cleaning items: dish soap, dish cloth, drying cloth snack donation container
    • one large coffee maker and one small coffee maker.
  • Plug in coffeemaker by 10 a.m.
  • Prepare coffee beginning with hot water in the small coffee maker.
  • Pour that into carafe, then prepare decaf coffee in small coffee maker.
  • Prepare regular coffee in large coffee maker. Push cart to front lobby, opposite main entry doors.
  • Use extension cord to plug coffee pot into wall.

General Hospitality (10 to 10:30 a.m.) — one person

  • Bring half gallon of juice and a baked good (optional)
  • Arrange food brought by community members, supplementing with cookies from cupboard, if necessary.
  • use cart for beverage service
  • Set out 2 white recycle bins filled with green recycle trash bags and one smaller white trash bin with white liner for non-recyclable items.
  • Place along office wall in foyer.

Potluck Set-Up (last Sunday of the month) - many hands!

  • Set up two banquet tables (there are extra tables behind altar) in front entry area to side of doors.
  • Cover with cloths from the seasonal colors box. 
  • Find extension cords in cupboard (possibly in Altar cupboard), set out hot trays, platters, tableware as needed.

Clean-up (12:40 to 1 p.m.) — two people

  • Clear banquet tables
  • Give snack money collected to treasurer or prosperity stewards
  • Roll cart to classroom #1
  • Wash any dishes and coffee makers.
  • Dispose of extra food (or take home)
  • Return all items to left hand cabinet behind sanctuary wall, replenishing service items
  • Put cart along wall across from cabinets
  • Place white recycle bins on bottom of cart
  • Let team leader, Caroline Fenn, know about any items needed
  • Lock cabinet
  • Take tablecloth home for washing and return it the following week
  • Take stainless silverware home for washing and return it the following week
  • Take home any recycled items
  • Dispose of recycle trash from both food prep area and front in green composting bin in rear parking lot and non-recyclable trash from small bin into dumpster.

Late Team

Information Table, Foyer Clean-Up (12 to 1 p.m.)

1st person -

  • Answer questions, find answers to questions on the spot or give them the name or phone number of a council member.
  • Help people sign up for classes. (Whoever is giving the classes needs to come check and pick up their sheets, otherwise put sheets in information binder if deadline does not occur before the next Sunday.
  • After service, during hospitality time, share information on how to become a member, answer questions.

2nd person -

  • As you leave the sanctuary, collect any leftover programs and papers in pews as well as the recycle box.
  • Sort out programs as you sit at the table. Re-stuff programs with prayer requests and sort other items into recycling as appropriate. Put programs into “greeting table” box for next week
  • Help teammate answering questions, etc.

At 12:45 p.m. -

  • Take out the purple cloth, cover the bulletin board and roll bulletin board back into the sanctuary
  • Give filled-out prayer request forms to the Practitioner.
  • Put all written material about Membership into the white binder, and all other still timely written material in to the pink binder.
  • Put clipboards, pens and other items into the “info table” tub and put into foyer closet along with the table and the nametag rack.
  • Give any lavender forms to the Compassionate Care team member (Ann Aubuchon).
  • Return the Name Tag holder to its nail on the wall in the foyer closet.
  • Break down greeting table, decorating items into “greeting table” tub and put into foyer closet, and tablecloths into fabric basket.
  • Using hand-vac (by the cabinet behind the altar), or the regular vacuum (inside the sanctuary doors), clean up any crumbs from hospitality
  • Bring in the sandwich board from the cement outside of the hospitality area, place in foyer closet.
  • Take garbage from foyer can and empty in outside dumpster. Replace with a garbage bag from foyer closet.
  • Put recycled Program items in recycle bin in parking lot.

Altar Take-Down (15 minutes after the service) - one or two people

Blow out the candles and let them cool before moving them.
The following items are returned to the right hand cabinet behind the altar area:

  • Fold all cloths and return to the plastic tub marked Seasonal Colors
  • Return all candles and any small candleholders
  • Return any stones or other decorations
  • Return any imitation flowers – do not put any fresh flowers back in the cabinet. Person who brought them is responsible for them.
  • Stack any cement bricks inside the cabinet
  • Neatly arrange large candleholders between cabinets
  • Fold and store the altar table to the left of the cabinets, against the wall.
  • Lock the right hand cabinet
  • Use hand-vac at left of cabinets to vacuum up any debris in sanctuary or piano area
  • Turn off sanctuary lights at switch across from cabinets. The three sliders should be pushed to the top position, then push in the oval buttons to turn off the lights

Prosperity Team

During service, plus 15 minutes after service. Two people collect, document and account for weekly Sunday collections. Requires familiarity with how to handle, count money, ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • As you come in for service, pick up the prosperity baskets from the storage closet
  • Take the box of “equipment” out of the top basket before the offering
  • Read prosperity statement aloud with the minister and the congregation
  • Collect donations during the offering
  • When you get to the back of the church count the number of people in attendance at the service
  • Take the baskets with you to your seat
  • After the closing circle, bring the donation baskets to the practitioner on duty for a blessing
  • Get the equipment box from the foyer closet and go to classroom #2 and count donations received with second person as verifier, filling out a verification slip in duplicate
  • Stamp the back of checks received with endorsement stamp
  • Give one of the verification slips to the minister
  • Put the other verification slip in an envelope with the donations, seal it, and give it to the treasurer (Michael Stuart) or if he is not there, give it to another council member
  • Return the donation baskets and equipment box to the lower shelf of the foyer closet
  • The box of equipment should contain: pens, envelopes, verification slips, endorsement stamp, calculator

Sound Assistant (9:15 am - 1 pm)

  • Unpack and set up sound equipment.
  • Assist with sound checks, microphone placement.
  • Provide feedback to Sound master during service, of sound quality issues.
  • Make copies of the service from the master CD.
  • Give one copy to each of the Children’s Program volunteers.
  • Sell copies to community members for $5.00 each.
  • Assist Sound Master in putting away equipment.
